HANOI (Thomson Financial) - Auto sales in Vietnam have risen 82 percent in the first seven months of 2007 compared to the same period last year, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) said Monday.

The number of vehicles sold between January and the end of July reached 34,998 against 19,270 in the same period of 2006, said VAMA, which listed data from 16 of its 18 members in the country of 84 million. VAMA said in July, car sales were up 92 percent year-on-year at 6,474 units.

And the hundreds of carbon-farting kilometre-long lines of cars, trucks and buses that linger about SaiGon each day are only going to get even more thick on the ground.  Great.
